Man United’s Ashley Young runs the rule over ‘great signing’ Angel di Maria
Ashley Young describes Manchester United's Angel di Maria as a 'fantastic signing'
Ashley Young has become the latest Manchester United player to lavish praise on Angel di Maria.
The Argentina international, who has scored three goals and made seven assists in 17 Premier League games for Louis van Gaal’s men this season, turned 27 on Saturday and is clearly a popular figure amongst his team-mates at Old Trafford.
Di Maria has come in for some criticism in recent weeks following his failure to produce consistent performances for the Red Devils since his club-record £60m move from Real Madrid.
However, Young believes that United signed one of the best players in the world in his position last summer in the form of the ex-Real Madrid star.
“Angel was a fantastic signing,” Young is quoted as saying by ESPN.
“Real Madrid have other top players like Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo, but he was the one who stood out for me in that team last season.
“When you add quality to a squad that already has quality it can only help us. We saw in the first couple of days in training just how good a player Angel is and what we can expect from him. He was definitely a great signing for us.”
Young, 29, has made one assist in 13 Premier League games for United so far this season under new boss Van Gaal.
His last appearance came in the 3-0 FA Cup win over Cambridge United at Old Trafford earlier this month.
