The Ligue 1 side are in pole position to reach the last eight after a handsome first-leg win thanks to goals from Geoffrey Kondogbia, Dimitar Berbatov and Yannick Ferreira-Carrasco on Wednesday night.
Arsenal’s club-record signing Ozil failed to register a shot on Monaco’s goal, whilst Chile international Sanchez had four attempts but failed to test shot stopper Danijel Subasic.
Speaking to Sky Sports following his former side’s shock defeat, Parlour felt Arsenal’s key players went missing against the Ligue 1 side in the first leg.
“I just felt the big players didn’t turn up: Ozil, Sanchez and Welbeck. You need players who are going to dictate the game, but they weren’t in the game at all,” Parlour said.
Parlour, who won three Premier League titles during his career, was particularly impressed with Monaco midfielder Kondogbia, who has been likened to Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira.
“[It was] a great strike, it took a slight deflection off Mertesacker,” Parlour added.
“But he was fantastic all night. He controlled the game. He scored a great strike to get them in the lead.”
The French midfielder has scored two goals and made one assist in 18 appearances in all competitions this season.
