Mourinho delivers latest Chelsea injury update ahead of Burnley clash
John Obi Mikel is Chelsea's only absentee heading into Saturday's Premier League clash with Burnley
John Obi Mikel will be Chelsea’s only absentee for Saturday’s Premier League clash with Burnley, Jose Mourinho has confirmed.
The 27-year-old Nigerian midfielder has been out of action since the 2-1 win over Aston Villa due to a minor knee problem and the Portuguese coach expects him to be sidelined for at least another two weeks.
Mourinho stressed the fact that a number of Chelsea players were injured an unable to train in the build-up to Tuesday’s Champions League clash with Paris Saint-Germain.
But the Chelsea manager confirmed that there have been no recurrences of any problems, before claiming that Eden Hazard was lucky not to pick up an injury during the 1-1 draw at Parc des Princes.
Speaking at a news conference at Chelsea’s Cobham training ground on Friday afternoon, Mourinho said: “Mikel is still out, and to be fair I would guess a couple of weeks more, maybe minimum.
“Apart from that, no problems. The [players from] after the game against Paris, no recurrence. And Hazard is a lucky boy not to be injured, which is also important.”
Chelsea head into Saturday’s clash on the back of their first-leg draw with Paris Saint-Germain.
