Mourinho gives latest Chelsea injury update ahead of Everton test
Jose Mourinho says that Cesc Fabregas is likely to return for Chelsea against Everton on Wednesday
Jose Mourinho is hoping to be able to call on Cesc Fabregas again when Chelsea host Everton at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night.
The 27-year-old has been nursing a hamstring injury and sat out Saturday’s 2-1 Premier League win over Aston Villa.
However, the Chelsea boss has moved to allay fears about the playmaker’s fitness by revealing that the former Arsenal captain is likely to start this week’s clash against the Toffees.
“I think Fabregas plays on Wednesday because against Villa the decision was to protect him,” Mourinho is quoted as saying by FourFourTwo.
“I didn’t want to risk two players at the same time because Willian had a minor problem from the previous game and was also risk. So to start two players with a risk was a big gamble. So we gambled with one.”
Fabregas suffered the minor muscular problem during the League Cup semi-final tie with Liverpool last month.
The Spain international has made 15 assists and scored two goals in 21 Premier League games for Chelsea so far this term.
Mourinho saw his Chelsea side move seven points clear of defending champions Manchester City thanks to their win at Villa Park on Saturday.
Chelsea take on Burnley in the Premier League on 21 February after this week’s clash with Roberto Martinez’ side in west London.
