New Barcelona chief puzzled by Alexis Sanchez’s move to Arsenal
Barcelona's new international sporting director Ariedo Braida cannot understand why the club sold Alexis Sanchez to Arsenal
Barcelona’s new transfer chief has admitted that he is at a loss to explain why the Spanish club sold Alexis Sanchez to Arsenal last summer.
The Chile international has been one of the Premier League’s top performers since his £35m switch to Emirates Stadium from Camp Nou.
The 26-year-old has scored 18 goals in all competitions for Arsene Wenger’s men as he established himself as a regular in the north London club’s first-team.
I do not know what reasons the club had to let him go
Now, following his impressive form, Barcelona’s new international sporting director Ariedo Braida has admitted that he does not know why the La Liga side opted to let the forward leave the club.
“I’d like Sanchez at all my clubs,” Braida told El Mercurio, according to the Daily Mail.
Asked why Barcelona opted to sell Sanchez, Braida replied: “That I do not know. I was not at the club at that time and I can not put myself in that situation.
“I only started my position this month. I do not know what reasons the club had to let him go, but now Sanchez is one of the best in the Premier League and is at a top level in world football.
“Sanchez is a great player, one of the world’s best in his position. I know him a lot, he has an exquisite technique.”
Sanchez picked up a suspected knee injury during Arsenal’s 2-1 win over Leicester City in the Premier League on Tuesday night.
Speaking after the game, manager Wenger said that both he and Aaron Ramsey (hamstring) would undergo tests in the coming days to assess the seriousness of their injuries.
