Steven Gerrard has been the ever-present Reds hero over the past 17 years of his Anfield career, but here is the Liverpool captain as you’ve never seen him before.

The 34-year-old midfielder earned comparisons to X-Men’s Wolverine after Gerrard celebrated his heroic last-gasp winner from the penalty spot against Fulham at Craven Cottage last season.

The Sport Review teamed up with @aidans_art to bring ‘Steverine’ to life as a fitting tribute to the former England skipper before he leaves for Major League Soccer outfit La Galaxy at the end of the season.

Drawing inspiration from the Wolverine movie’s promotional poster from 2013, the Liverpool skipper is at his tenacious best in the artwork, showing off his guns in trademark hero fashion.

The Reds midfielder was at his most inspirational as he captained Liverpool to Champions League final glory in Istanbul in 2005 after the Merseyside club came from 3-0 down to win their fifth European Cup on penalties.

Brendan Rodgers’ side return to Ataturk Stadium on Thursday evening for the second leg of their Europa League last-32 tie after a 1-0 win at Anfield last week.
