Daniel Sturridge was thrilled to see Mario Balotelli break his Premier League duck for Liverpool
Daniel Sturridge may be competing with Mario Balotelli for a starting spot but the Liverpool striker was quick to congratulate the Italian after he scored a late winner against Tottenham on Tuesday night.
The 25-year-old started his first Premier League game since August on Tuesday night, but the forward unable to get on the score sheet before he was replaced by Balotelli in the second half.
The controversial forward has fallen further down the pecking order since Sturridge’s return, but the Reds substitute gave his prospects a boost with his first Premier League goal for the club.
Balotelli’s 83rd-minute effort sealed a thrilling 3-2 win against their top-rivals Tottenham, and Sturridge was amongst the first Liverpool players to pay tribute to the former AC Milan man on Instagram.
“Class win for the boys and nice to see @mb459 break his prem duck for LFC. Roll on the weekend!!” Sturridge wrote.
Balotelli has scored against Tottenham in the Premier League, Middlesbrough in the League Cup and Ludogorets in the Champions League this season.
The former Manchester City striker completed a £16m move to Liverpool from AC Milan in the summer transfer window last August.
