Wayne Rooney took to social media on Thursday afternoon to share a picture of himself in the boxing ring with his followers.

The Manchester United captain has been a boxing fan since he started primary school and recently returned to his first love in part of an advertising series by Samsung.

Rooney was joined by British Super Middleweight champion Paul Smith Jnr in the ring as part of the new #Galaxy11 ad campaign.

The England captain uploaded the photo above to his Instagram account on Thursday and wrote: “TBT – Sharing a ring with my mate @paulsmithjnr who fought for a world title last week. It was a great effort and he done us proud!”

Rooney has been a key figure for Manchester United under Louis van Gaal this season. The 29-year-old has scored eight goals and made four assists in 22 Premier League games and has also netted once in the FA Cup.
