Wayne Rooney takes to Instagram to reveal his excitement at helping Manchester United reach the FA Cup quarter-finals
Wayne Rooney took to social media to reveal his excitement at helping Manchester United set up an FA Cup quarter-final clash with Arsenal by beating Preston North End 3-1 on Monday.
The Manchester United captain thumped home a late penalty to net United’s third goal after strikes from Ander Herrera and Marouane Fellaini cancelled out Scott Laird’s 47th-minute opener.
Louis van Gaal’s side will now take on the Gunners at Old Trafford for a place in a Wembley semi-final.
And Rooney was clearly delighted to help his side through. The striker posted the picture above on his Instagram account soon after the final whistle and wrote: “Through to the next round. Next up in the FA Cup is Arsenal at Old Trafford! Thanks to the away supporters who were unbelievable tonight!!”
Rooney has been in good form for United so far this season. The 29-year-old has scored eight goals and made four assists in 21 Premier League games for Van Gaal’s men.
He scored against Arsenal last time the two sides met back in November, as Van Gaal’s side won 2-1 at The Emirates.
