Mesut Ozil was among the Arsenal players to take to social media to reveal his excitement ahead of the first leg of Arsenal’s Champions League last 16 clash with Monaco on Wednesday night.

The Gunners are bidding to reach the quarter-finals of Europe’s elite club competition and host the Ligue 1 side at Emirates Stadium.

Ozil is clearly looking forward to the clash. He posted the picture above on his Instagram account on Tuesday and wrote: “26 hours left – we are ready for the UEFA Champions League. I simply love this tournament! #UCL #AFCvMON #YaGunnersYa.”

Sanchez, meanwhile, shared the snap below and added: “Vamos Gunners mañana. Come on tomorrow ..”

Arsenal have never played Monaco in European competition before but they have a favourable record against French opposition. They have played 20, won 12 and only lost twice.

This is Arsenal’s 15th consecutive appearance in the last 16 but they have lost at this stage in each of the last four seasons.

Arsenal’s most recent meeting against French opposition was when they played Olympique de Marseille twice in the group stage of the 2012-13 Champions League.
