Daniel Sturridge trains ahead of Merseyside derby
Daniel Sturridge was in high spirits as he looked to earn a place in Liverpool’s starting line-up for the trip to Everton on Saturday.
The Liverpool striker has been limited to back-to-back cameo appearances following his long-awaited return from a string of calf and thigh injuries last weekend.
Sturridge scored against the Hammers within six minutes of his introduction at Anfield, although the 25-year-old drew a blank against Bolton in the FA Cup last night.
However, the Reds forward was in a good mood as he joked with his Liverpool team-mates during a training session at Melwood on Thursday, just hours after their dramatic 2-1 win at Macron Stadium.
Steven Gerrard, meanwhile, joked with Liverpool coaches Colin Pascoe and Glenn Driscoll after the 34-year-old midfielder made his 700th Reds appearance in the cup competition.
Brendan Rodgers was more occupied with match-winner Philippe Coutinho, who netted a dramatic 91st-minute winner to complete Liverpool’s comeback against Neil Lennon’s men.
Liverpool face Everton in Saturday’s late kick-off at Goodison Park.
