Player ratings as Edinson Cavani denies Chelsea a first-leg victory in Paris

Salvatore Sirigu Was not at fault for Chelsea’s goal and apart from that, he was hardly under threat in the match. 6/10

Gregory van der Wiel Threatened the Chelsea defence on occasions with his runs behind their back four but struggled to cope with Hazard at times. 7

Marquinhos Did not have much to deal with despite PSG conceding a first-half goal from inside the penalty area. He covered his space well enough to not allow Costa in behind him. 6

Thiago Silva Was hardly troubled down the centre of the pitch but should have closed down Cahill, who assisted Chelsea’s goal. 6

Maxwell Failed to mark Ivanovic when the Chelsea full-back scored the opening goal. Struggled to deal with pressure from Chelsea’s midfielders and was poor going forward. 5

Marco Verratti His passing and long balls threatened the Chelsea back four from time-to-time. He was constantly involved in PSG’s attacking play and often at the centre of it. 8

David Luiz He sat very deep during the match and occasionally struggled to deal with Hazard and Fabregas going forward. 6

Blaise Matuidi Provided the cross for Cavani to head in for the equaliser. He was constantly involved in PSG’s build-up play. He stood up well to pressure from Ramires and Matic in most situations. 7

Ezequiel Lavezzi Threatened Chelsea at times with his pace and nearly put his side in front when his rebound was blocked. 7

Zlatan Ibrahimovic Had a very quiet game. He was often left isolated up front and apart one moment where he forced Courtois into making late save, he struggled to get involved in the match. 6

Edinson Cavani He was invisible in the firstvhalf but he suddenly appeared after the break to score for PSG. He should have scored towards the end of the match when found his way into the Chelsea box but failed to convert from close range. 7

Substitutes

Javier Pastore Came in for the final ten minutes but struggled to make an impact. 6

Chelsea

Thibaut Courtois (Man of the match) Made three good saves in the first-half to prevent PSG from taking the lead. His final save late on was crucial and he stopped the hosts from winning the game. 8

Branislav Ivanovic Scored a well-taken goal out of nothing to give Chelsea the lead. He defended well throughout the match. 7

Gary Cahill Flicked the ball well onto Ivanovic to score. He struggled at first to defend early headers from Matuidi and Ibrahimovic and he failed to pick up Cavani for the equalising goal. 6

John Terry Played a part in the Chelsea goal. He handled most PSG threats quite well but he also failed to pick up Cavani before the striker scored. 7

Cezar Azpilicueta Solid defensive effort and did well going forward along his side of the pitch. 7

Ramires Defended really well against PSG’s midfield and forward line. He closed down the opposition on a number of occasions and prevented them from having space to play. 7

Nemanja Matic Protected the Chelsea back four really well and he constantly put pressure on PSG’s midfielders when they closed in on the back four. 7

Willian He was often invisible and isolated in the match. He hardly threatened down the flanks like the normally does. 5

Cesc Fabregas Had to do a lot of defending in the match and didn’t go forward as much as he is use to doing. It was a quiet game from the Spaniard. 6

Eden Hazard He constantly took on his opponents and beat them on a number of occasions with his dazzling runs on the ball. He may have had a quiet night in front of goal but he forced PSG into fouling him with his runs. 7

Diego Costa Struggled to get into the game and was often left isolated up front. He didn’t have any sort of positive impact in Chelsea’s attacking play. 6

Substitutes

Juan Cuadrado Forced to do a lot of defending when he came on late in the match and didn’t really get time to go forward. 6

Loic Remy Didn’t get the opportunity to break forward or have any sort of impact in the final ten minutes. 6

Oscar On for Fabregas but contributed to Chelsea holding the ball up in the final seven minutes of the match. 6
