PSG 1 Chelsea 1: We’re in better position than last year, says Terry
John Terry reserves special praise for Branislav Ivanovic and Thibaut Courtois after 1-1 draw
John Terry was pleased with a good first-leg result after Chelsea were denied a win by Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani at Parc des Princes.
Branislav Ivanovic headed Chelsea into a first-half lead after centre-halves John Terry and Gary Cahill combined to set up the Serbia international to break the deadlock nine minutes before half-time.
Branislav Ivanovic has been different class defensively this year and always has been
However, Uruguay Edinson Cavani got in between Cahill and Terry to nod a 54th-minute equaliser, before the Liverpool target missed a great late chance to win the first leg in the French capital.
Speaking to ITV Sport, Terry said: “Both teams were feeling each other in the first half, Thibaut Courtois pulled off some great saves and we go away with a happy draw. Last year we made it very difficult for ourselves but we are in a lot better position now.”
Terry reserved special praise for Ivanovic after the 30-year-old full-back scored his third goal in six games.
Terry added: “Branislav Ivanovic has been different class defensively this year and always has been, attacking he always poses a great threat.”
Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois made five saves, including a brilliant added-time stop to deny Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
“[Thiabut] was different class. Cech made two greats saves to help us beat Everton. But Thibaut came in and was top class.”
