PSG boss labels Jose Mourinho a ‘genius’ ahead of Chelsea clash
The Paris Saint-Germain coach is full of praise for his Chelsea counterpart
Laurent Blanc has described Jose Mourinho as a “genius” as his Paris Saint-Germain side prepare to face Chelsea in the last 16 of the Champions League.
The French outfit are set to host the Blues in Paris on Tuesday night in the first leg of their European knockout clash.
Chelsea head into the game on the back of their dramatic 1-0 win over Everton at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night as Mourinho’s men preserved their seven-point lead at the top of the Premier League table.
The west London side have a free weekend to prepare for the first-leg clash after they were beaten by Bradford in the FA Cup last month.
And Blanc has revealed his admiration for the Chelsea manager ahead of his side’s Champions League showdown with the Blues.
“Our Champions League tie with Chelsea? Mourinho is a genius,” Blanc told L’Equipe.
“They lost the FA Cup game against Bradford 4-2, which gave them a week to prepare for the Champions League game against us.
“Just think about the tsunami of criticism there would have been if PSG had lost a game like that.
“People would have said PSG’s coach does not understand anything. It’s like that.”
Blanc’s comments come after Chelsea playmaker Eden Hazard committed his long-term future to the club by signing a new long-term contract on Thursday.
