Rodgers delivers latest Liverpool injury update ahead of Spurs clash
Brendan Rodgers says Philippe Coutinho and Raheem Sterling are fitness concerns for Spurs clash
Brendan Rodgers says Philippe Coutinho and Raheem Sterling are injury doubts ahead of Liverpool’s clash against Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield on Tuesday.
The Brazil international was forced off with a knee injury early in the second half of Liverpool’s goalless draw with Everton at Goodison Park.
Sterling, meanwhile, was withdrawn in the 82nd minute of Saturday’s Merseyside derby, and the Liverpool manager revealed that the 20-year-old forward is nursing a foot problem.
Speaking to Liverpool’s website ahead of the visit of Spurs, Rodgers said: “Phil Coutinho had a knock on his knee and Raheem had a knock on his foot.
“We had fresh players on the bench to bring on and hopefully they will be fit for Tuesday.”
Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana didn’t feature in the derby after the £25m summer signing was omitted from the manager’s match day squad for the local clash.
However, Reds boss Rodgers hinted that the former Southampton captain could make a return against the north London side on Tuesday night.
Rodgers added: “We need to see how he is but he has a big possibility for Tuesday.”
Liverpool are in seventh place in the Premier League table, four points adrift of fifth-placed Tottenham, who beat Arsenal 2-1 on Saturday.
