Southampton legend criticises Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino
Matt Le Tissier tells Mauricio Pochettino not to 'mug himself off'
Matt Le Tissier has rubbished Mauricio Pochettino’s claim that Ronald Koeman took over a winning team at Southampton.
Pochettino, who quit the Saints to become Tottenham Hotspur’s new manager last May, claimed Koeman had an easy job succeeding the Argentine in the St Mary’s hot seat.
The Spurs manager added that it is taking longer to turn around the north London club’s fortunes as the 43-year-old needs to “reinvent things” at White Hart Lane.
However, Southampton legend Le Tissier responded to Pochettino’s remarks on Twitter, pointing out that Koeman had to deal with a mass exodus in last summer’s transfer window.
Le Tissier said: “Interesting thoughts from pochettino today claiming koeman took over a winning team! No doubt MP did decent job……..but….
“Perhaps he should have thanked nigel adkins too then. NA last 12 games at sfc lost 2. MP last 12 games lost 5. Half the team then sold!
“Come on MP credit where credit is due. RK has done incredible job dont mug yourself off.”
Pochettino guided Southampton to an eighth-place finish last season, however, the Saints are currently in the fourth and final Champions League spot under Koeman’s guidance.
Additionally, Southampton are two points clear of top-four chasing Tottenham ahead of the north London derby at White Hart Lane on Saturday.
