Sterling and more: Instagram reacts to Gerrard’s 700th Liverpool game
Raheem Sterling and Martin Skrtel lead tributes to Steven Gerrard after 700th Liverpool game
Raheem Sterling led the tributes to Steven Gerrard on Instagram after the Liverpool captain made his 700th Reds appearance on Wednesday night.
The former England international became just the third Liverpool player to reach the milestone, following in the footsteps of Jamie Carragher (737) and record appearance holder Ian Callaghan (857).
Unsurprisingly, Gerrard’s Liverpool team-mates were quick to heap praise on their inspiration leader, and Sterling, who levelled the FA Cup fourth-round replay against Bolton before Philippe Coutinho bagged a late winner, wrote:
“Also congrats to the main man @stevengerrard 700 Games For @liverpoolfc !!!” Sterling posted.
Martin Skrtel, who has played alongside Gerrard for the best part of seven years, described the midfielder as a legend, whilst he also claimed the Bolton midfielder Zach Clough dived to win the home side their penalty, which Eidur Gudjohnson scored.
Skrtel wrote: “Great win tonight!team spiri fight till the end never give up btw-it was never a penalty congrats to @stevengerrard on his 700th game!!!!wooow!LEGEND”
Finally, Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva, who moved to Anfield in 2007, declared that Gerrard continued to act a role model for all his Reds team-mates.
Lucas added: “Congratulations mate, you are a role model to all of us !!!!”
