Tottenham 2 Arsenal 1: Player ratings as Harry Kane sparkles

Player ratings as Harry Kane bags a double to win north London derby for Spurs

By Sid Selant

Tottenham Hotspur

Hugo Lloris Not at fault for Arsenal’s goal but made a blinding save from Welbeck in the second half. 6/10

Kyle Walker Got forward as much as possible, forcing Monreal to defend deeper. 6

Jan Vertonghen Not tested by the Arsenal strikers. The Belgian defender had a relatively quiet game. 6

Erik Dier Alongside his centre-half partner Vertonghen, the 21-year-old didn’t have much to do. 6

Danny Rose Caused Arsenal problems down the left and combined well with Eriksen to set up attacks. Too easily beaten by Welbeck for Ozil’s goal. 7

Nabil Bentaleb Solid in midfield, got stuck in when required and played it simple. Supplied killer cross for Kane’s second goal. 7

Ryan Mason Ran the midfield like a man possessed, making several (sliding) tackles. Held the midfield in shape and broke up play well. 8

Erik Lamela The Argentine showed little quality and hardly involved in the game. Looked overawed by the occasions. 4

Moussa Dembele The Belgium international played behind the striker. Had little impact on the north London derby, though. 5

Christian Eriksen Got hold of the ball as much as possible. Free role and tried to create attacks and get Kane involved. 7

Harry Kane (Man of the match) Hurried the Arsenal defence with his work-rate. Made the keeper make a good save in the first half. Poacher’s finish at the far post on 56 minutes. Bullet of a header on 86 minutes to grab his second. Always involved in play. 9

Nacer Chadli Took a risk when he appeared to pull back Mertesacker in Lloris’ area. 5

Arsenal

David Ospina Busier of the two goalkeepers. Had a slight injury scare early on but made a couple of decent saves. 5

Hector Bellerin Kept busy by Rose, who was a threat down the right. A difficult afternoon. 4

Per Mertesacker The World Cup winner was kept busy at the back but the captain marshalled the defence well. 5

Laurent Koscielny Booked for a careless challenge on Dembele. Free header in the second half which the defender should have score form. 5

Nacho Monreal Testing 90 minutes as he was forced to cope with Walker’s marauding runs. He rarely ventured forward. 5

Francis Coquelin The defensive midfielder did a good job shielding Koscielny and Mertesacker. 6

Aaron Ramsey The Welshman was very quiet in the first half maybe due to lack of Arsenal attacks. Didn’t grow into the game. 5

Danny Welbeck Was forced to track Rose down the left, however, he delivered the cross for Ozil’s goal. 6

Santi Cazorla Not as influential as Arsenal fans would have expected. Had a shot early in the second half, producing a good save from Lloris. 5

Mezut Ozil Brilliant finish for his goal. Drifted in and out of the game after that. 7

Olivier Giroud Apart from the assist for the goal, very ineffective in the attacking half. Disappointing derby for the striker. 5

Substitutes

Theo Walcott Didn’t have much of an impact. Questions over whether he deserved to start. 5
