Tottenham can break into top four, says Tom Huddlestone
Tom Huddlestone heaps praise on Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino
Tom Huddlestone has backed Tottenham Hotspur to secure a top-four finish this season.
The north London side suffered a blow in their bid to secure a Champions League spot after a 3-2 defeat by top-four rivals Liverpool at Anfield on Tuesday night.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side had been in good form before their loss to the Merseyside outfit, winning eight of their last 10 Premier League games.
Hull City midfielder Huddlestone, who spent eight seasons at White Hart Lane, is still confident that the Tottenham can secure a fourth-place finish.
Asked if Spurs could finish in the top four, Huddlestone told talkSPORT: “Yeah, I don’t see any reason why not.
“The manager has his own style of play and the lads seem to be buying into that. I know he got a bit of criticism in the early part of the season but I think the perseverance with the system and the training methods is paying benefits.
“From what the Southampton and Tottenham lads have said, a lot of [his training] is double sessions in the early part of the season and it might take a little while to bed in but they’re well and truly over that now. They’re reaping the rewards of his training methods and his match-style as well.”
Tottenham face London rivals West Ham United in their next Premier League game on 22 February days after Spurs take on Fiorentina next Thursday.
Huddlestone has scored eight goals in 144 Premier League appearances before he joined Hull City in a £5.25m deal in August 2013.
The England international was part of the Spurs side that won the League Cup in 2008.
