Tottenham legend hails Harry Kane’s new deal as January’s best business
Gary Lineker is thrilled to see Harry Kane sign a new long-term deal
Gary Lineker has claimed that Harry Kane’s new long-term Tottenham Hotspur deal is the “best signing” of this month’s transfer window.
The 21-year-old striker signed a new five-and-a-half-year contract at Spurs on Monday, which will keep him at White Hart Lane until 2020.
Kane scored a brace on Saturday in Tottenham’s impressive 3-0 win against West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.
“The best signing of this transfer window is, by some distance, the new five-and-a-half year deal that keeps Harry Kane at Spurs,” Lineker told BreatheSport.
Kane has scored 20 goals in all competitions this season and has helped Mauricio Pochettino’s side push for a Champions League spot.
Despite Spurs experiencing a slow start to the season under the new manager, the north London side are now just two points off the top four with the help of Kane’s outstanding performances, including 10 league goals.
His excellent form may potentially land him his first England call-up when Roy Hodgson names his squad next month for the Euro 2016 qualifier against Lithuania and international friendly against Italy.
The Tottenham academy graduate has also impressed for the England Under-21s, scoring eight goals in 10 games, and he is expected to be part of Gareth Southgate’s squad at this summer’s European Under-21 Champions in Czech Republic.
