The likes of Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea are thought to be keen on bolstering their squads before the deadline on Monday night at 23:00 GMT in England.

Arsenal are reported to be ready to meet the £13.5m buy-out clause to sign Valencia defender Jose Luis Gaya, while Manchester United are said to be stepping up their interest in Paris Saint-Germain’s Marquinhos.

The biggest deal this month so far is defending champions Manchester City’s £28m purchase of Swansea striker Wilfried Bony.
