Van Gaal delivers latest Man United injury update ahead of Burnley clash
Louis van Gaal says Michael Carrick is Manchester United's only injury concern
Michael Carrick is Manchester United’s only injury concern ahead of the visit of Burnley on Wednesday, Louis van Gaal has confirmed.
The Red Devils midfielder is still recovering from ankle ligament damage which has kept the England international sidelined since a goalless draw with Cambridge United in the FA Cup last month.
Luke Shaw, meanwhile, will serve a one-game ban for the visit of the Clarets after the Red Devils left-back received a second booking in the closing stages of their 1-1 draw with West Ham United on Sunday.
Speaking at his pre-match media conference at Carrington on Tuesday afternoon, Van Gaal said: “Only Michael Carrick is injured. Luke Shaw is of course suspended so I have to choose out of the rest.”
The Dutch boss revealed Victor Valdes, Ashley Young and Rafael da Silva all featured as United’s Under-21 side edged to a 2-1 win against Chelsea last night.
Van Gaal added that he will have to assess his squad before the Old Trafford clash after a demanding stalemate with Sam Allardyce’s high-flying West Ham side at Upton Park at the weekend.
“Yesterday I played five players of my selection in the second team [Under-21s] and they won against Chelsea,” Van Gaal added.
“But I have to see how the players have recovered from the match against West Ham United – that was a tough game, we had to fight until the end so I have to look and see how they have recovered.”
