Van Gaal delivers latest Man United injury update after Burnley win
Louis van Gaal discusses Phil Jones and Daley Blind's fitness after Manchester United's win over Burnley
Louis van Gaal has revealed that Phil Jones suffered a suspected knee injury during Manchester United’s 3-1 win over Burnley in the Premier League on Wednesday night.
The defender suffered the problem early on in the Premier League clash and was replaced after just five minutes at Old Trafford.
And speaking after the game, Van Gaal said that Jones was in a downbeat mood as he faces a spell on the sidelines.
“I think, for Jones, we have to wait and see,” Van Gaal told MUTV.
“I think it shall be difficult as he was very disappointed when I spoke with him. Maybe it’s a knee problem so it’s not good.”
The Manchester United boss also played down fears surrounding Daley Blind’s fitness after the Dutchman suffered a knock to the head in the first half.
Van Gaal added: “Blind has a headache but I don’t think he is out of the game on Monday [in the FA Cup against Preston North End].”
Wednesday’s win lifted United back into third place in the Premier League table, 12 points behind leaders Chelsea after the Blues’ 1-0 win over Everton.
United’s next game is a trip to Preston in the FA Cup on Monday night, before a clash with Swansea at the Liberty Stadium in the Premier League.
