Wenger delivers latest Arsenal injury update ahead of Leicester clash
Alexis Sanchez is back available for Arsenal ahead of Tuesday's Premier League clash with Leicester City
Alexis Sanchez is back available for selection for Arsenal’s clash with Leicester City on Tuesday night, Arsene Wenger has confirmed.
The Chile international sat out the weekend’s 2-1 defeat by Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane due to a hamstring injury but is in line to make his return when the Gunners host City at Emirates Stadium.
The Arsenal manager also confirmed that his side have no new injury concerns after their disappointing derby defeat by their local rivals on Saturday.
Speaking at his pre-match news conference on Friday morning, Wenger said: “We missed him [Sanchez] on Saturday, we missed his physical strength and work rate.”
The Frenchman also revealed that midfielder Jack Wilshere is back in training this week after his lay-off with an ankle injury.
“We have to monitor him daily and see how he develops. I don’t know when he’ll return,” said Wenger of Wilshere, before confirming that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain remains sidelined.
He added: “He’s not back. He’s got at least two more weeks [out].”
Wenger called on his Arsenal side to bounce back from the disappointment of their defeat by Spurs by beating Leicester on home soil this week.
“We have to deal with our performances,” said Wenger. “The criticism is always there. We have to focus on our performances. I don’t take criticism personally. What I take personally is losing games.
“We have a good opportunity to show that we have the strength and quality to deal with pressure.
Saturday’s loss left Arsenal in sixth place in the Premier League table and 14 points behind leaders Chelsea. The north London side are currently two points behind fourth-placed Manchester United.
