Arsene Wenger has revealed that Jack Wilshere has had a minor operation to stop discomfort to his ankle, ruling the Arsenal midfielder out of Sunday’s clash with Everton.

The 23-year-old has not featured for the Gunners since last November after he damaged his ankle ligaments against Manchester United and required surgery.

Wilshere was named on the bench for Arsenal’s Premier League clash with Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park last week but missed Wednesday night’s Champions League defeat by Monaco.

And speaking at his pre-match news conference on Friday, Wenger confirmed that Wilshere is set for another short spell on the sidelines.

The Arsenal manager also revealed that both Aaron Ramsey and Mathieu Flamini are set to return to training on Saturday but won’t be ready for the visit of the Toffees to Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

Wenger added that Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Debuchy are “still a few weeks away” from returning for the Gunners.
