Wenger delivers latest Arsenal injury update after Boro win
Arsene Wenger gives the latest updates on Arsenal duo Jack Wilshere and Alexis Sanchez
Arsene Wenger has revealed that Jack Wilshere is close to making his Arsenal comeback.
The midfielder has been out of action since November due to an ankle injury which required surgery but returned to full training with the Gunners last week.
Wenger opted against calling on the England international for Sunday’s 2-0 FA Cup fifth-round win over Middlesbrough at Emirates Stadium.
However, the Frenchman says that it won’t be long before Arsenal fans see Wilshere back in action for the north London club.
Speaking at his post-match news conference on Sunday, Wenger said: “He’s two weeks ahead of schedule.
“I had a hesitation to put him on the bench today but I thought I wanted him to have one more week of training at least.”
Wilshere, 23, has scored one goal and made one assist in nine Premier League games for Arsenal so far this season.
Wenger also admitted that Alexis Sanchez looked more “like himself” after the Chilean played 72 minutes of Sunday’s FA Cup clash.
“He had a good performance,” said Wenger of Sanchez. “I think he became stronger as the game went on.
“He didn’t miss too many games and what was important for him was to get through the game without injury.”
Arsenal’s next game is a trip to Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon. The Gunners are currently fifth in the table.
