Arsenal need to concentrate on the double, says Ian Wright

Arsenal legend Ian Wright is still hoping that the Gunners can catch Chelsea in the Premier League title race

Ian Wright has challenged Arsenal to win the double after the Gunners crashed out of the Champions League on Tuesday night despite a valiant fightback in Monaco.

Arsene Wenger’s side were 2-0 winners in the Principality courtesy of goals from Olivier Giroud and Aaron Ramsey, however, the Premier League side were unable to score a crucial third that would have sent the north Londoners through to the last-eight draw.

Arsenal still have plenty to play for domestically, though, with a FA Cup semi-final tie against Bradford City in mid-April, whilst the Gunners moved to within seven points of Premier League leaders Chelsea after a 3-0 win against West Ham United at the weekend.

And somewhat cheekily, Arsenal legend Wright immediately turned his thoughts to an ambitious Premier League and FA Cup double after their European exit.

Wright wrote on BreatheSport: “Might as well say it first. Lost it in the first leg. Absolutely gutted. We’ll just have to concentrate on doing the double.”

Wright added that he would have preferred a resounding loss in the second leg rather than exiting the competition on away goals.

Wright continued: “I’d rather us lose 5-0 than go this close.”
