James Milner should consider a move to Italy or Spain despite reported interest from Arsenal and Liverpool, according to Micah Richards.

The England international is set to become a free agent at the end of the season after having failed to agree a new deal with the defending Premier League champions.

If the likes of Barcelona, Atletico Madird and Real Madrid or Juventus and Roma in Serie A want you, then I don’t see why not

The versatile midfielder, who was won two Premier League titles at Etihad Stadium, has been linked with a switch to City’s rivals Arsenal and Liverpool.

Richards, who joined Fiorentina on a season-long loan from City last summer after struggling to impress Manuel Pellegrini, urged Milner to consider a move abroad.

“James Milner is up there with the top midfielders in the world. A lot of people say he’s not amazing at one particular thing but he never lets the team down and Man City are a better team when he plays,” Richards told talkSPORT.

“If the likes of Barcelona, Atletico Madird and Real Madrid or Juventus and Roma in Serie A want you, then I don’t see why not.

“Juve have got some of the best players in the world at the moment. Everyone wants to better themselves in their career.

“Milner is someone who is too good to be sitting on the bench. He deserves to be playing in the starting 11 somewhere. That will be one of the key factors in his decision.”

Richards has endured an injury-hit season in Serie A so far, making just seven appearances and racking up 320 minutes of top-flight action.
