It has always been one of the hottest tickets in world sport and this weekend’s El Clásico is proving to be no different as viagogo, the world’s largest source of live event tickets, has seen unprecedented UK demand for the clash.

With the teams occupying first and second places in La Liga, this Sunday’s clash between the fierce rivals is shaping up to be one of the most hotly anticipated in recent memory, with viagogo seeing a staggering 128 per cent increase in demand since the weekend.

Year-on-year demand for El Clásico has increased by nearly a third (31 per cent) and it is currently the most popular overseas event for UK fans on viagogo’s site.

Demand for the match on Sunday is likely to have been fuelled by ongoing speculation over Gareth Bale’s future, with fans discontented with his form and reports continually linking him with a move back to the Premier League. Could this be the last chance to see the Welshman on the biggest stage?

The match indisputably boasts the finest array of attacking talent anywhere in the world, with Ballon d’Or holder Cristiano Ronaldo joined by the likes of Bale and James Rodríguez and tasked with taking on superstars Lionel Messi, Luis Suárez and Neymar, who represent what many believe to be the greatest front three in football history.

A viagogo spokesperson commented: “We’ve seen demand surge in the run up to this weekend’s El Clásico match, which is without doubt one of the most hotly anticipated sporting events anywhere in the world.

“The combination of cheap flights, a weekend in Barcelona and the chance to see some of the finest players in world football is clearly a heady mix for UK football fans.”
