Chadli and more: Twitter reacts as Tottenham’s Kane scores on England debut

Nacer Chadli and Luke Shaw tweet their thoughts after Harry Kane scores on his England debut

Harry Kane scored inside 80 seconds of his England debut as the Three Lions were 4-0 winners against Lithuania at Wembley on Friday night.

The Spurs striker was a second-half substitute as the 21-year-old replaced captain Wayne Rooney, who had earlier scored the opener against their Group E opponents.

Kane guided a close-range header into the net after Danny Welbeck and Raheem Sterling had added second and third goals for the hosts in their Euro 2016 qualifier.

Here is a selection of the best Twitter reaction from the professionals, past and present, in chronological order to England’s emphatic win.

Kane’s Spurs team-mate Nacer Chadli (@NChadli) sings the striker’s famous song as if he were a Tottenham fan on the Wembley terrace: “@hkane28 congrats! he scores when he wants he scores when wants… #COYS”

Another of England’s big prospects Manchester United defender Luke Shaw (@LukeShaw3) congratulates Kane on a special night at Wembley: “Congratulations to @hkane28 for your debut and of course the goal”

Meanwhile, former England and Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher (@Carra23) can’t help but notice the Three Lions captain’s nervous smile from the bench: “Wayne Rooney tonight gets closer to Bobby Charlton’s record of 49 goals which he will go into break.”

England Under-21 international Jack Butland (@JackButland_One) hails a great night for the national team all round: “great results all around, 4-0 for the seniors, 1-0 for the 21s and a debut goal for @hkane28 congratulations mate! @england”

Three Lions legend Gary Lineker (@GaryLineker) is tipping Kane for greatness already: “50 more touches and Harry Kane will beat Sir Bobby Charlton’s goalscoring record.”
