The England international has struggled to hit his top form since a return from a string of calf and thigh injuries which had kept him sidelined since August.
Sturridge has scored three goals in 11 appearances in all competitions following his comeback in early February, although the striker has started just six games.
Former Arsenal midfielder Merson reckons Sturridge holds the key to Liverpool’s bid to finish in the Champions League places at the end of the season.
“Liverpool are flying at the moment,” Merson told Sky Sports.
“They didn’t get the result they wanted in the cup but they are still in it. They are rolling. I think they will win this game.
“Daniel Sturridge is back now and he’ll be as fresh as anybody because he hasn’t played any games. That will be a massive advantage come the last 10 games.”
Sturridge has scored just three goals in nine Premier League games in an injury-hit campaign for the 25-year-old striker.
The England international was one of the driving forces behind Liverpool’s Premier League title bid last season, netting 21 times in 29 outings.
Liverpool make the trip to Swansea City in the Premier League on Monday night.
