The Red Devils are in fourth place and five points clear of their nearest rivals Liverpool after a 2-1 victory at Anfield in their most recent Premier League outing.
De Gea has been linked with a move to Real Madrid throughout much of the season, and former United defender Phil Neville hinted that the goalkeeper’s future could hinge on their top-four fate.
Speaking to United’s website, the Spain international reiterated the importance of Louis van Gaal’s side finishing in the Champions League qualification spots after their absence from the competition this season.
“We have to qualify for the Champions League no matter what,” De Gea told United’s website.
“We already missed out last season, and a team like Manchester United cannot do that two years in a row.”
De Gea has been heavily linked with a move to Champions League holders Real Madrid in recent months despite talks with United over a new long-term deal.
The Spanish shot stopper, who won the Premier League title in 2012, moved to Old Trafford in a £18m deal from Atletico Madrid in 2011.
