Dietmar Hamann says Brendan Rodgers should drop Daniel Sturridge and push Raheem Sterling up front for Liverpool.

The 25-year-old striker struggled to stretch the Swansea defence on Monday night as Jordan Henderson’s strike sealed a 1-0 victory over Garry Monk’s side at Liberty Stadium.

Sturridge has scored just three goals in 12 games in all competitions following the England international’s return from a string of calf and thigh injuries earlier in the season.

Former Liverpool midfielder Hamann reckons Sterling could be a better option up front for the Reds until Sturridge rediscovers his best form ahead of the visit of Manchester United on Sunday.

Hamann wrote on Twitter: “Sturridge not right. Team better without him at the moment. Don’t stretch Swansea enough as he doesn’t run in behind. Put Sterling up top.”

Sturridge has scored three goals in 10 Premier League games this season after the former Manchester City man netted 21 times in 29 top-flight outings last term.
