Gary Neville has joked that he will do everything in his power to try and convince Lionel Messi to join Manchester United from Barcelona.

The Argentina international’s future at Camp Nou has been a source of speculation in recent months amid reports that he is unhappy at the La Liga club.

Manchester City and Chelsea have both been credited with an interest in signing the 27-year-old should he become available in the summer.

And one Manchester United fan cheekily asked the former Red Devils defender to try and convince Messi that a move to Old Trafford would be his best option, prompting a light-hearted response from Neville on Twitter.

Messi has been in typically sensational form for Barcelona so far this season, scoring 32 goals and making 14 assists in 27 La Liga games for the Catalan side.

He has also netted eight goals and made two assists in seven Champions League games this term.
