Hugo Lloris has claimed that Tottenham’s 3-0 loss to Manchester United came as a surprise to the north London club.

Spurs were torn apart by a rampant Red Devils display at Old Trafford as Louis van Gaal’s men scored three first-half goals on their way to a convincing Premier League victory.

The loss dented Tottenham’s hopes of finishing in the top four and left them seventh in the table heading into the final nine games of the season.

And Lloris admits that he and his Spurs team-mates did not see the defeat coming.

Speaking to Spurs’ website, Lloris said: “It’s not a game that we expected.

“We didn’t see the Tottenham of this season and we can have regrets after this game because it was an opportunity for us.

“Now we need to keep working and keep our heads high because with nine games left, a lot could happen. We need to be ready and try to win as many games as possible.

“You cannot close your eyes to the first half, you need to have feedback from everyone to see what happened. But we need to stay positive and the players are already thinking about the next game.”

Spurs will be looking to return to winning ways when they host basement club Leicester City at White Hart Lane on Saturday.

Despite last weekend’s defeat, Tottenham are in good domestic form, having won six of their last 10 Premier League games. The loss to Manchester United was only their third in their last 15 games.
