Juan Mata: Man United must maintain momentum ahead of ‘big’ April

Manchester United winger Juan Mata is targeting eight Premier League wins in their final games of the season

Juan Mata wants Manchester United to continue their momentum in the Premier League ahead of four big games in April.

The Red Devils moved five points clear of the nearest rivals for fourth place, Liverpool, after a 2-1 victory at Anfield in their last game before the international break.

United face Aston Villa, Manchester City, Chelsea and Everton in four games that could define their season as Louis van Gaal looks to seal the club’s return to the Champions League.

Writing in his blog, One Hour Behind, Mata is targeting eight wins in their remaining Premier League games to seal a top-four finish.

“We are in the last stage of the Premiership, with just eight weeks ahead: eight crucial games to determine where we will finally stand on the table.

“Personally, I think setting our goals game after game is the right thing to do, trying to win as many of them as possible and keeping the momentum following these two wins versus Tottenham and Liverpool. I check the calendar and I see four big games for us in April: Aston Villa, Manchester City, Chelsea and Everton.

“All of them are big clubs and we want to show that we can beat them, getting close to our goal and also making our fans happy.”

Mata scored either side of half-time to help United seal a 2-1 win against 10-man Liverpool, who had captain Steven Gerrard sent off within seconds of his half-time introduction.

The Spain international has scored 13 goals in 40 Premier League games for United following his £37.1m switch to Old Trafford from Chelsea in January 2014.
