Liverpool can still finish in top four, insists Pepe Reina
Bayern Munich goalkeeper Pepe Reina believes Liverpool still have the chance to finish in top four
Pepe Reina believes Liverpool can still finish in the Premier League’s top four despite the blow of losing to rivals Manchester United last weekend.
The Reds slipped five points behind fourth-placed United after Louis van Gaal’s side were 2-1 winners at Anfield thanks to goals from Juan Mata either side of half-time.
They are still very much in the race and hopefully they can make it
Liverpool, though, can move to within three points of third-placed Arsenal if Brendan Rodgers’ men are able to beat the league’s form side at The Emirates on 4 April.
Reina, who helped Liverpool reach the Champions League final in 2007, refused to rule out his former club’s chances of qualifying for Europe’s premier club competition.
“They were several years without being in that top four,” Reina told Daily Mirror. “Last year they were close to winning the trophy.
“Then everybody was waiting for this season to be at least like the last one. They spent some good money and brought some players in. Everybody was expecting a little bit more.
“But the beginning of the season was not good enough. Now things are turning round and they have had a great second part to the season. They are still very much in the race and hopefully they can make it.”
Liverpool were unbeaten in 13 Premier League games before a 2-1 defeat by the Red Devils on Merseyside last weekend.
The Reds can take confidence from their recent away record in the English top-flight, though, after winning their last six Premier League games on the road without conceding a goal.
