The 34-year-old midfielder is set to face the Red Devils for the last time as a Liverpool player ahead of his switch to Major League Soccer outfit LA Galaxy at the end of the season.
They’ve been on a great run since Steven has been out of the team
Gerrard made his return from a hamstring injury on Monday night as the Liverpool skipper was a second-half substitute in a 1-0 victory over Swansea City at Liberty Stadium.
However, Gerrard’s former team-mate Carragher doesn’t believe Joe Allen or Jordan Henderson deserve to be dropped in favour of their captain for the clash against United at Anfield.
Carragher told Sky Sports: “Who do you leave out? Henderson, you don’t leave out. Allen was maybe one of the best players on the pitch against Man City. I don’t think he’ll play Steven Gerrard.
“The team is playing well. They’ve been on a great run since Steven has been out of the team. Unfortunately, he’ll know himself, when you go out the team and the team continue on a great run, it’s hard to get back in.
“It’s unfortunate for him but we’ve all been there towards the end of our career.”
Liverpool won six successive games without Gerrard after the Reds captain suffered a hamstring injury during a 3-2 victory over Tottenham Hotspur in mid-February.
Gerrard, who could end his Liverpool career with a FA Cup triumph on his birthday, has scored nine goals against United during a 17-year spell at Anfield.
