Man United transfers: Paul Scholes names Gareth Bale as ideal signing
Manchester United legend Paul Scholes wants the Red Devils to sign Gareth Bale in the summer
Paul Scholes has urged Manchester United to sign Real Madrid forward Gareth Bale amid growing uncertainty surrounding the forward’s Bernabeu future.
The Red Devils have been heavily linked with a big-money switch for the Wales international after the Los Blancos forward’s car was attacked by Madrid supporters following their El Clasico defeat.
My feeling is that he would be perfect for Manchester United
Bale, who is a former PFA player of the year winner, completed a £85.3m deal from Tottenham Hotspur to Los Blancos in 2012, signing a contract that runs until 2019.
Former United midfielder Scholes believes Bale would be perfect signing for the 20-time English champions amid reports that Louis van Gaal has over £100m transfer chest.
“I get the impression that the only way Bale is going to leave Madrid is if the club tell him to go. As their record signing, he may yet believe that the time for that is a long way off but we have seen them do it with some big names in recent years, including Mesut Özil and Angel Di Maria,” Scholes told The Independent.
“My feeling is that he would be perfect for Manchester United. Of course, as a fan of my former club I would like to see him there but, looking at it objectively, I always felt that Bale was a natural fit for United as he developed at Tottenham from a left-back into one of the best attacking footballers in the country.”
Bale, who scored in last season’s Champions League final, has scored 12 goals and made five assists in 25 La Liga appearances for Carlo Ancelotti’s Madrid side this season.
Despite the Welshman’s slow start to life in the Spanish top flight, the former Tottenham winger has already scored 27 goals in just 52 league appearances.
