Man United transfers: Stefan de Vrij rules out Lazio exit
Manchester United target Stefan de Vrij plays down talk of a £18m move to Lazio in the summer
Stefan de Vrij has ruled out a summer move to Manchester United despite persistent reports linking the Lazio centre-half with a move to Old Trafford over the past nine months.
The 23-year-old was a key member of Louis van Gaal’s defence in his Netherlands side that finished third in last summer’s World Cup after victory over hosts Brazil in their final game.
The United manager has been linked with a move for the Lazio star at the end of the season to strengthen his defensive options at Old Trafford.
However, De Vrij rubbished reports of a possible £18m switch to the 13-time Premier League champions, underlining his continued happiness in Rome.
“I do not know anything about Manchester United’s interest in me, but I’m used to the media linking me with other teams. Meanwhile, I’m very happy at Lazio, everything’s going well and I’m just focusing on this.” De Vrij told Fox Sports.
The Netherlands international has made 25 Serie A appearances for the Rome outfit this season.
De Vrij moved to Champions League-chasing Lazio for an undisclosed free from Feyenoord in 2014.
The centre-half has made 25 appearances for the national team since his debut in 2012.
