Man United’s Daley Blind: David De Gea one of world’s best goalkeepers
Manchester United midfielder Daley Blind talks up the qualities of Real Madrid target David De Gea
Daley Blind believes Manchester United number one David De Gea is one of the best goalkeepers in the world.
The Spain international has played a pivotal role in keeping the fourth-placed side’s hopes of securing a place in next season’s Champions League alive.
De Gea has been linked with a move to Champions League holders Real Madrid in recent months, with reports suggesting Los Blancos want the United man to replace Iker Casillas.
Midfielder Blind, who moved to Old Trafford in a £16m deal from Ajax last summer, is under no illusion to how important De Gea has been to United this term, talking up the shot stopper’s ability.
“David is doing a great job here this season. He’s one of the best keepers in the world at the moment. We’re very happy that he’s in the goal and he has made some great saves.
“All the credit goes to him. He works very hard and is getting better all the time. His shot-stopping is one of his best skills but you also have to look at how he plays [with his feet] and how he comes for crosses, the way he has improved that is very impressive.
“He has got better in every way. The skills when he is saving goals and also the skills with his feet, they make him an all-round keeper and that’s one of the best things about him.”
De Gea has been heavily linked with a move to Champions League holders Real Madrid in recent months despite talks with United over a new long-term deal.
The Spanish shot stopper, who won the Premier League title in 2012, moved to Old Trafford in a £18m deal from Atletico Madrid in 2011.
