Mario Balotelli shouldn’t be near Liverpool side, blasts Reds legend
Liverpool legend Mark Lawrenson tells the Reds to forget about Mario Balotelli as an option
Mario Balotelli shouldn’t be anywhere near the Liverpool first-team, according to Reds legend Mark Lawrenson.
The Italy international was a second-half substitute for Lazar Markovic as Liverpool pressed for a breakthrough against Blackburn Rovers in their FA Cup quarter-final at Anfield.
However, the former Manchester City man couldn’t help Liverpool find a winner as the 24-year-old resorted to a number of ambitious attempts on Simon Eastwood’s goal.
Former Republic of Ireland international Lawrenson was furious with Balotelli after his 31-minute cameo against the Championship side, calling Rodgers to leave out the striker indefinitely.
Lawrenson told BBC Sport: “Forget about Mario Balotelli. He is an absolute waste of time. He shouldn’t be anywhere near this team.
“I can see why Brendan Rodgers threw him on today as he might just create something, but 99 times out of 100 he will let you down.”
Balotelli, who won the FA Cup with City in 2011, has scored two goals in his last 12 appearances for the Reds in all competitions.
The Italy striker has netted just four times in 20 games following his £16m switch to the Merseyside outfit from Serie A giants AC Milan last August.
