Paul Merson believes that Harry Kane is capable of firing Tottenham Hotspur to victory at Manchester United on Sunday afternoon.

The Red Devils host Spurs at Old Trafford looking to bounce back from the disappointment of their FA Cup quarter-final defeat at the hands of Arsenal on Monday night.

Both United and Tottenham are aiming to break back into the top four and secure qualification for next season’s Champions League.

And although former Arsenal midfielder Merson is tipping a draw between the two top-four hopefuls, Merson warned United that man-of-the-moment Kane is more than capable of punishing Louis van Gaal’s side.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Merson said: “I think Tottenham could win this but I’m going to go for a 2-2 draw.

“I say that because Manchester United can’t keep doing what they’re doing, surely? Will Tottenham go there with the confidence of opening up? For how poor they’ve been, it’s still Man United, so they need to be careful.

“If Man United lose this match, then they can say goodbye to their top-four chances. They’ve have got some tough games to come. Louis van Gaal doesn’t know his best 11 yet and Man United don’t know who their best manager is.

“I don’t think they can say confidently ‘he’s the man’ – not after what I’ve been watching the last seven months. Harry Kane will cause them havoc.”

United are currently fourth in the Premier League table and a point behind third-placed Arsenal.

Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham, meanwhile, are sixth in the table but only three points adrift of United heading into the final 10 games of the season.

Spurs striker Kane has been named Premier League player of the month for February.
