Juan Mata couldn’t help himself from snapping a picture with Manchester United’s “boxer” Wayne Rooney after the Red Devils’ 3-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

The 29-year-old was in the headlines this weekend after he appeared to be knocked unconscious by Stoke City defender Phil Bardsley in the Red Devils striker’s kitchen in a video which the Sun on Sunday published this morning.

Rooney responded to the media storm by celebrating his goal against Spurs by recreating the incident on the Old Trafford pitch.

And Mata was delighted to snap a photo with the United captain after the final whistle, as United kept up their chase for a top-four finish with victory over the north London side.

Spanish playmaker Mata posted the picture above of the duo on his Instagram account and wrote: “‘The Boxer’ @waynerooney @manchesterunited.”

Manchester United’s next game is a trip to top-four rivals Liverpool in the Premier League on Sunday.
