Robin van Persie’s various spells on the sidelines in recent years have allowed the striker time to develop some other hobbies away from football.

And the Dutch forward took to social media on Thursday afternoon to reflect on a pre-season trip to Australia with Manchester United, when he enjoyed a spot of fishing in the sunshine.

Van Persie was part of United’s squad that enjoyed a pre-season tour Down Under back in 2013 and the former Arsenal captain was clearly in a reflective mood on Thursday.

He shared the photo above on his Instagram account and wrote: “Pre season with @manchesterunited in Sydney 20 months ago, fantastic place. A great day of fishing.”

Van Persie has been out of action since suffering an ankle injury during the 2-1 defeat by Swansea City at Liberty Stadium last month.

He has scored 10 goals and made two assists in 24 Premier League games for Louis van Gaal’s side so far this season.

The Red Devils travel to top-four rivals Liverpool in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
