Piers Morgan has explained the reasoning behind his opinion that it is time for Arsenal to replace Arsene Wenger.

The celebrity Arsenal supporter has long made his stance clear on social media that he feels that the Frenchman has taken the Gunners as far as he can.

Former Daily Mirror editor Morgan has caused plenty of debate on Twitter in recent months with his thoughts on why Arsenal have been falling short in recent seasons.

Arsenal crashed out of the Champions League at the last-16 stage for the fifth successive year on Tuesday night after losing to Ligue 1 side Monaco on away goals.

And Morgan voiced his views on talkSPORT on Thursday afternoon as Arsenal prepare for Saturday’s Premier League trip to Newcastle United.

Speaking on the radio show, Morgan said: “I certainly believe we need a change [of manager].”

He continued: “What I am talking about at Arsenal is moving from Wenger, who is certainly a great manager and has been great for Arsenal, to something that would give us that extra percentage that takes us from being the bridesmaid to the bride.

“If you put Diego Simeone or Jurgen Klopp into the Arsenal set-up they would get rid of the dead wood, they would buy the right gritty, tough players to go around all the dazzlingly skilful players we have, and we would be seriously competitive again.

“Until we get the right attitude among the players, then we are not going to compete with the big boys.”

Arsenal are currently third in the Premier League table and a point behind second-placed Manchester City. The Gunners face Reading in the semi-finals of the FA Cup next month.
