QPR 1 Arsenal 2: Arsene Wenger hails ‘very positive’ victory
Arsene Wenger was delighted by his Arsenal side's all-round display at Loftus Road
Arsene Wenger praised his Arsenal side’s all-round display after watching them beat Queens Park Rangers 2-1 to keep their bid for a top-four finish on track.
After a goalless first half, Olivier Giroud opened the scoring when he poked home when on the ground in the 64th minute at Loftus Road.
Summer signing Alexis Sanchez then drilled home at the near post three minutes later to send Arsenal on their way to victory.
Charlie Austin pulled a goal back for the Hoops late on but Wenger’s men held firm to secure a victory which keeps them in third place in the Premier League table.
And speaking to BBC Sport after the win in west London, Wenger said: “We needed to be strong and get the ball down more, to get back to our game, and we did that better in the second half, I felt it was all us.
“We scored two but we could have scored more, we played very well in the second half, and our collective game as a group was good, the chances we created were good and we played with a lot of desire and belief, overall it was a very positive game.”
Arsenal’s next game is a trip to Manchester United in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup on Monday night.
The Gunners are currently four points behind second-placed Manchester City and a point ahead of United.
