Six Nations 2015: Italy drop prop Martin Castrogiovanni

Forward absent for final two rounds, but Quintin Geldenhuys and Andrea Masi return for France and Wales matches in Rome

Veteran prop Martin Castrogiovanni has been dropped for Italy’s final two RBS 6 Nations matches against France and Wales.

The 34-year-old Toulon tighthead was ruled out of Italy’s dramatic 22-19 win over Scotland last Saturday after needing 14 stitches to his nose after an incident with a friend’s dog.

But he has been left out of Jacques Brunel’s squad named on Tuesday afternoon, and has not been ruled out as injured, with Wasps’ Lorenzo Cittadini and Zebre’s Dario Chistolini named as the only tighthead option.

Despite going off injured in the second half, Zebre outside-half Kelly Haimona retains his place in the squad along with his rival Tommaso Allan.

Wasps’ versatile back Andrea Masi, who missed the Scotland game after picking up a calf tear while on club duty, and Zebre lock Quintin Geldenhuys are recalled.
