Swansea 0 Liverpool 1: Player ratings as Simon Mignolet impresses

Player ratings as Jordan Henderson's second-half goal hands Liverpool a 1-0 victory at Swansea City

Swansea City

Lukasz Fabianski Made a fabulous save at his near post from Sterling’s shot. However, his positioning seemed a bit wayward for Henderson’s goal because if he held his position on the line, the ball would have looped safely into his arms. 5/10

Kyle Naughton Not his best game and was ineffectual going forward as well. Lallana started to get the better of him as the game progressed. 5

Jordi Amat Was decent for the majority of the game but was unfortunate for Henderson’s goal. He made a wonderful sliding challenge but the ball cannoned off the defender and into the back of the net. 6

Ashley Williams Dealt with Liverpool’s tactical variations quite well, especially in the first-half. Also kept Sturridge quiet for most of the game. 6

Neil Taylor Very good in attacking positions and his inventive run down the left-hand side nearly led to a Sigurdsson goal. But was poor defensively and Sterling beat him on numerous occasions. 5

Ki Sung-yueng Was very influential for the first 60 minutes. Controlled the game when he had possession and also picked up good positions in between the lines to try and hurt Liverpool. 7

Jack Cork Gave his defence fantastic cover in the early stages but when Liverpool switched formation for the last 20 minutes of the game he was completely outnumbered in midfield – and started to struggle. 6

Jonjo Shelvey Had a good chance from a well worked corner but his shot was deflected wide by Lallana. Occasionally excellent in possession, but still prone to errors which can cost his side. 5

Gylfi Sigurdsson His positioning confused Liverpool in the first-half and he helped Swansea link midfield with the attack. His curling effort was well saved by Mignolet but faded as the game wore on. 6

Bafetimbi Gomis Remains an enigma as he has the talent to really bully defenders but seems too casual at times. His powerful 20 yard effort was well saved by Mignolet. 6

Wayne Routledge Was a huge threat and caused Can and Sterling problems down the left-hand side. Played a few lovely crosses to the back post which on another day would have been headed in by Ki and Gomis. 7

Liverpool

Simon Mignolet Has been brilliant since the turn of the year and carried on his good form against Swansea. Made two excellent saves, one from Gomis, the other from Sigurdsson. 8

Emre Can Has been calm and composed in most of the games he has played at centre-half but this was a poor game by his standards. 5

Martin Skrtel Been Liverpool’s best defender this season and made a number of crucial interceptions and tackles in the first half when Swansea were dominating. 7

Mamadou Sakho Isn’t the most cultured in possession of the ball, but is brilliant when it comes to defending and has helped Liverpool keep quite a few clean sheets this season. 7

Raheem Sterling Played in a free role up front but was starved of possession. Much more effective when he took a wing-back role and caused Taylor huge problems. 6

Jordan Henderson Was very fortunate with his goal but his desire put him in a position where he could capitalise from Amat’s unfortunate mistake. Was lucky to still be on the pitch though after some rash challenges in the first ten minutes of the game. 6

Joe Allen Neat and tidy in possession and has really grown in stature in recent games. Now becoming a vital member of this Liverpool team. 6

Alberto Moreno Struggled in the first half and persistent fouling earned him a yellow card. Played further up the pitch in the second half and caused a few problems with his pace. 5

Adam Lallana Switched with Sterling mid-way through the game as he was ineffectual at wing-back, but once he moved into a free role he caused Naughton a lot of problems. 6

Daniel Sturridge Subdued by his standards in front of goal but still had a few moments of brilliance. His through-ball to Sterling which set up a chance was very well disguised. His late shot was very clever and was unfortunate that it came back off the post. 5

Philippe Coutinho Very quiet game from the Brazilian but he still tried to make things happen. A few shots from distance and one of them nearly nestled into the top-corner. 5
