Tottenham transfers: Austria defender talks up ‘dream’ move

FC Koln defender Kevin Wimmer says he would like to join Tottenham Hotspur in the future

Kevin Wimmer says it would be a dream to complete a move to Tottenham Hotspur at the end of the season.

The centre-half, who made his Austria debut in 2013, has been heavily linked with a move to the League Cup runners-up over the past couple of weeks.

While the 22-year-old confirmed that he would jump at the chance of moving to Spurs, Wimmer added Cologne and the Premier League side are yet to agree a deal.

“The two clubs have yet to agree because of the transfer fee. They are still negotiating,” Wimmer told Laola TV. “It would be a dream to move to a top club like Tottenham.

“For me, the transfer is a big step, a step with which I can develop myself. That’s why I want to take the chance. I’m not someone who wants to stop developing. That is why England would be the next step. I’m playing in Germany. This is pretty much the best league in the world.

“The English Premier League is the only one that can match that. For me, the English league would be a great challenge. There I can develop because it’s very demanding. I’m a fan of English football.”

Tottenham were reported to be close to agreeing a £4.3m deal with the Bundesliga side for the defender’s services earlier this month.

Wimmer has made 26 appearances in all competitions for the German side this season, picking up four yellow cards and red card over the course of the campaign.

The Austrian centre-half has made 66 appearances for Cologne following his move to the German outfit from LASK Linz in 2012.
